SUMMARY:Building Resiliency with Beavers
DESCRIPTION:Beaver play a keystone role in the function of our ecosystem—but they can also be tricky to live with. Since 2013 Jakob Shockey has been working with the Applegate Partnership & Watershed Council to build resiliency in the Applegate through restoration projects and is now leading a partnership effort with the Rogue Basin Partnership to utilize beaver as a habitat restoration tool. He also works across the state with landowners and agencies to resolve beaver conflicts.\nIn this talk\, Jakob will discuss the role of beaver on the landscape\, their historical context in our valley\, and tools for resolving common conflicts with beaver.\nBring your questions!”

SUMMARY:High Cascades post-burn huckleberry planting day
DESCRIPTION:Join the Rogue Native Plant Partnership for a day of restorative huckleberry planting in the burn scar of the 2017 Broken Lookout wildfire in partnership with the Cow Creek Band of Umpqua Tribe of Indians\, the US Forest Service and the RNPP! \nPlease RSVP here \nProject Background: In 2017\, the Rogue River Siskiyou National Forest botany crew happened to be out collecting berries for seed only two weeks before the Broken Lookout Fire near Prospect. This seed was used to propagate over 12\,000 huckleberry plants to expedite their recovery in the most severely burned areas. This planting site is also an important cultural area for the Cow Creek Band of Umpqua Tribe of Indians. These plants are now ready to be planted and we need your help! \n\nLogistics: We’ll meet at the Prospect Ranger Station on Hwy 62 at 9 am. From there we’ll carpool and shuttle plants to the planting site (40 min / 16 miles NW). Once at the site\, we’ll use teamwork to carry the plant trays to planting sites and use shovels to plant them in the ground. We’ll provide gloves\, tools\, and some snacks. We plan to return to the ranger station by 4 pm. \nBring: Appropriate clothing for working outdoors\, a bag lunch\, water\, sun protection\, sturdy shoes and any other equipment you need to make walking in woods/planting easier. \nNote: There are no restrooms at the planting site. Please plan accordingly.

SUMMARY:Rogue River Clean Up
DESCRIPTION:Come participate in this year’s Rogue River clean-up and restoration event! \nNational Public Lands Day is the largest single-day volunteer effort for America’s public lands. \nEach year\, hundreds of thousands of volunteers come together on the fourth Saturday in September to assist with various projects designed to restore and enhance public parks\, forests\, waterways and more. From trail maintenance to tree planting—volunteers of all ages and abilities roll up their sleeves and work side-by-side to care for public lands. \nThe cleanup will span 13-15 miles of the Rogue River\, and will include land and water crews. Boat spaces are extremely limited\, so register early! \nStretch is from Lost Creek Lake to Gold Hill. There are several different meeting spots to choose from. \nGloves\, garbage bags\, water\, first aid kits\, and guidance provided. Lunch\, fun\, and appreciation for volunteers afterwards at TouVelle State Park 12-1 PM. \n
