SUMMARY:Weed Wrangle
DESCRIPTION:Weed Wrangle – Grants Pass is a local weed-pulling event\, part of a national effort to help manage public and park lands by removing invasive plant species. Scotch broom is our target plant this year. We will be working along the trail near the shelter at Griffin Park. As a friend of Griffin Park\, we ask you to join us for an afternoon of learning\, community\, and action to protect our native landscapes. \nWeed Wrangle is a national event supported by the Garden Club of America focused on caring for our public lands by removing invasive plants. Weed Wrangle – Grants Pass will continue our work targeting the removal of Scotch broom at Griffin Park and along the trail on the neighboring BLM land. \nMeet at the Griffin Park Shelter at 12:30 pm to register and join the fun! County Park Day-Use Fee will be waived for participants. Tools will be provided. Bring gloves and wear long sleeves\, pants\, and work boots. Snacks and drinks will be provided. \nWHAT’S THE PROBLEM WITH SCOTCH BROOM?\nScotch broom is not indigenous to our region. Though it thrives here\, it crowds out natives and alters the ecosystem. \nProblems with Scotch broom include:\nFire Risk – plant oils are highly flammable\nToxic Soil- roots change soil chemistry harming mycorrhizae and indigenous species\, specifically reducing drought tolerance of Douglas fir\nMonoculture- thousands of seeds easily spread\, covering large areas and suffocating native plant populations\nNot Good Forage- competes with and overruns natural food sources of wildlife \nRECOGNIZE\, REMOVE\, RESTORE\nInvasive species affect the health of our public and private lands jointly. It is important as good neighbors and land stewards that we learn to identify harmful species\, take action to remove them\, and work to restore our native landscapes.

DESCRIPTION:This quarter’s members’ meeting is devoted entirely to getting input for the RBP strategic planning process. To do our small part to help minimize the virus’ spread\, we are postponing the members’ meeting to Tuesday\, April 21st.  We still very much want to sit down over brown bag lunches on Tuesday\, April 21\, from 11:30 am – 1 pm\, at the Talent Community Center for a frank discussion about the future of RBP and how we can best serve our community. \nLike all of you\, we will continue to monitor events closely. We hope that we all will have a much better idea of what we are facing by mid-April. If we end up canceling the April 21st brown bag lunch\, we will find other ways to get your input into the strategic plan update.

DESCRIPTION:This spring\, the Rogue Native Plant Partnership is partnering with the Illinois Valley Soil and Water Conservation District\, the Vesper Meadow Restoration & Education Program & NW Nature Shop to host a native plant sale to the public. Plants may be ordered in advance via RNPP’s website from March 23rd through April 13th. Same-day sales will be available as well but supplies will be limited. \nPlant pick-ups will be held at two locations: Ashland and Cave Junction on April 25th \nIf your billing address is within Jackson County\, your pre-ordered plants will be available at The Northwest Nature Shop (154 Oak St.\, Ashland) \nIf your billing address is within Josephine County\, your plants will be ready for pickup at the Illinois Valley Soil and Water Conservation District Office (219 Redwood Hwy\, Cave Junction) \nPlease note: They do not offer shipping at this time.
